I went to junior high school and high school with Mark Walter and Robin Zander. Mark and Robin are now married and Robin brought Aidan to me recently for new headshots.
I've never had the experience until now of two people I knew as a kid having a child themselves.
It's like seeing Robin and Mark as I remember them as kids all mixed into one kid -- Aidan!!
As you many of you already know I love paper. To be honest I joke with people and call myself a "paper whore." I get funny responses sometimes when I say that but it's honestly the truth.
I think some of their holiday card designs are amazing and "vintage" in their look, which of course I love.
I have created an April Rocha Photography Minted store where I sell my favorite Minted products. You can check it out by clicking here.
There are a couple of very unique items that Minted has created and one of them is their Yearline cards. You can see a sample below. These cards a great way to tell family and friends big events that have occurred during 2009.
Free shipping on all orders through November 30 when you use the code AFSHIP09.
I had the privilege of travelling to San Francisco last weekend and visiting dear friend Jen and her new baby Charlie. Just three weeks old he was a wonderful subject to shoot.

I know it's only August but everyone needs to start thinking about holiday cards. I am working with an absolutely amazing new stationery line and I'm giving you a sneak peek of some of their designs. I have a whole book of samples if you would like to see them in person.
You should also start thinking about scheduling the annual portrait session with me as well.

I just love putting together my year in review slideshows. It always reminds me of all the fun shoots I have had all year long. I work really hard to find good songs for my slideshows and I love how my images from 2008 work with this song.

I can't believe I can finally announce that my new website, www.aprilrocha.com, is live. A big thank you to Big Folio for making this happen. A special thank you also to Jeff Caston of Big Folio who always immediately returned my emails no matter how annoying they probably were.

This year they welcomed Camryn Olivia into the world and was thrilled to shoot their new addition. Check out the slideshow below or click here to view.
Polaroid recently announced that they were getting out of the film business. I knew that less photographers were using Polaroid but I never imagined that they would no longer be making this magical film. There are a lot of websites trying to save Polaroid film including Photojojo and Save Polaroid. A great Austrian-based company called Unsaleable sells a lot of Polaroid film including this fantastic Chocolate Film 80 which you use with a Holga Polaroid Back camera. I just love the tone and feel of this film.

Lindsey Emerson is not only my photo assistant on a lot of my jobs she is also like a daughter to me. Not only is she beautiful but she has such a wonderful spirit and sense of humor!!
We had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to shoot at the private beach in Point Dume and the light was just incredible. I shot that day with digital camera and also brought along my medium format and toy cameras. We both had a lot of fun. Click the link box below to view the slideshow or click here.
I created a 2006 Year in Review Slideshow and I decided to create another one this year. It was another great year. Thanks to everyone who made it so successful.
I graduated from Loyola Marymount University and I acquired a great friend while I was there. Helen has two adorable sons and every year their cousins come to spend the month of July with them from Manhattan. And every year they hire me to shoot the whole extended family.
The littlest one, Miles, was a little uncooperative that day but he's so cute you couldn't even get mad at him.
I've known my friends Reb and Cathy for almost 13 years now and I've watched their beautiful daughter Sarah grow up before my eyes. They recently hired me to do a photo shoot of her and I think the photos turned out incredible and she was really, really good at posing for me. Certainly made my job a lot easier!!
I have always credited my friend Andrea Baker with getting me into shooting weddings. She was the very first person to ask me to shoot a wedding.
Every time there is an important Baker family event she calls me and this one was their son Walter Declan's christening. When I shot their daughter Fiora's christening a couple of years ago I shot this photo in the doorway of the church. Well this time it was a different church so I had to attempt to recreate the photo and I think it worked pretty well (Declan's photo on the Left, Fiora on the Right).
The christening gown that Declan is wearing is from the early 1900's and was James great, great uncle's. It is such a beautiful gown and is still in perfect condition.
Fiona and I have known each other since we were four years old. We grew up three doors down from each other. She now lives in Forest Hills, New York and every time I see her (either in NY or when she comes back to Santa Monica) I shoot her kids Shane and Aidan(and sometimes her and her husband Perry.
Every time I walk into her house there are photos that I've taken framed in every room. Always makes a photographer feel good.
One of my brides, Genevieve Cortez, recommended me to the Perez Family for a family photo shoot. Diana is about 8 months pregnant now and glowing. Their son Adam was such a dream that day. It took no time at all for him to cooperate and be adorable. The beach was overcast and I love that look with black and white film.
