I'm Going to be Announcing Something Very Exciting in the Next Few Days
My Adventure at the Paramour Estate
          Some busts I encountered along the way to the flowers The base of the statue Part of the statue from the now empty pond on the estate The back gate to the estate. Anyone who knows me well knows that I'm a magazine junkie. The number of magazines I subscribe to is in the double digits. One of the magazines I enjoy is C Magazine and a few months ago I came across a little feature on Silver Lake Farms. I contacted them and asked if I could shoot their farm and they agreed. Little did I know that one of their farms is situated on the Paramour Estate. The estate's owner, Dana Hollister, offered some of her land to the Farm to grow flowers and vegetables. The minute I got to the back gate of the estate I knew this would my kind of place -- old, a little mysterious and filled with character. The Paramour Estate was originally built for silent screen star Antonio Moreno and his wife and oil heiress, Daisy Canfield Danziger and was eventually turned into a convent for Franciscan nuns until Dana Hollister purchased it in 1998. Not only did I shoot beautiful flowers that day but also some relics from the estate. I can't wait to go back there and shoot some more. A special thank you to Tara Kolla of Silver Lake Farms for making all of this possible. Click here to read the C Magazine feature. Labels: April Rocha Happenings, Etsy, Through the Viewfinder, TTV
A Sneak Peek of a Prototype I am Creating
Mentioned in the Snippet & Ink Blog
Featured in Victoria Magazine - May/June Issue
   One of my favorite magazines for many years was Victoria Magazine. It ceased publication a few years ago and last year it was revived and I was always happy to see it again in my mailbox every couple of months. A long, long time ago I sent them one of my business cards hoping to one day be featured in their "Calling Cards" feature. Well it finally happened and I got a box of the issue on my doorstep today even though the issue doesn't come out until April 21. What a great way to start my Easter weekend!! Through the lens of her camera, April Rocha captures the sincere romance of a wedding day with images that last a lifetime. By focusing on the meaningful details of a couple's special ceremony, she creates the ultimate artistic expression with pictures that evoke true emotion.

I've Been Selected as one of the Artists in a Photography Exhibit at the Annenberg Beach House
 When I was attending John Adams Junior High (now a middle school) if you had a 3.5 GPA or higher you could become a member of Honor Scholarship (run by Mr. La Duke). At the end of the school year, as a reward, you would get to go to the Sand & Sea Club for the day and I have very fond memories of going there every year of junior high. That club has been recently refurbished and is now the Annenberg Beach House with a grand opening on April 25. Their first photography exhibit is Beach Stories and one of my images was chosen for the exhibit. There are 36 images in the exhibit and my image was chosen out of 250 submissions. This is an incredible honor as I love my home town, the beach house (which was built by William Randolph Hearst for his mistress Marion Davies) and most especially the beach. An Artist's Reception will be held in mid-May (the date has not been finalized). Labels: April Rocha Happenings, awards, kudos, Santa Monica, Why I Love Film
One of My Favorite Blogs {frolic!}
Shout Out on (Oh So) Beautiful Paper's Blog
      Last week (Oh So) Beautiful Paper's blog featured my work along with letterpress designer Stephanie Sponsel of Les Fleur de Papier. I originally met Stephanie in a letterpress class at Otis College of Art and Design and we have been friends ever since. She was the mastermind and designer behind her husband Brian's 40th birthday party at the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach and it was a spectacular event. The blog featured her amazing letterpress work which I photographed at the party. I included a photo of the shoes she wore that night because her husband bought them for her for their wedding anniversary (Manolo's no less). Now that's a husband. The party was also recently featured on Party Spot, which is a division of The Knot. Click here to view that feature. You can view my slideshow from Brian's birthday party here. Katie with her Dogs Blue and Salvatore
    Katie recently hired me to do a photo shoot with her and her two chihuahuas, Blue and Salvatore. We had such a good time and I just love how the images turned out. I just love shooting people with their pets. Click here to view the slideshow I created from this photo shoot. Labels: Adorable Animals, Chihuahuas, pets
